The W Lot Is Closing and the Drone Show Is Coming: Getting to the Pompano Pier This Fall

October 22, 2026

Where do you leave the car when the lot you always used for a pier evening is gone?

According to the City of Pompano Beach, the answer is mostly that you don't bring the car. The W Hotel parking lot is closing. The city's response wasn't a replacement lot. It's a free, on-demand ride system that brings people to Fisher Family Pier from their front doors or from lots well west of the Intracoastal. The Fishing Village Shuttle has been running every weekend since October 2. On Saturday, November 7, the Drone Show Extravaganza will put it through the busiest night of the fall.

For anyone in Pompano Point, a short walk or ride north of the pier, the change is practical. This fall, getting to the Fishing Village is more about rides and timing than parking spaces.

What the city built instead of a lot

The city announced the Fishing Village Shuttle on September 16, 2026, and service began Friday, October 2. The city's release says plainly that the shuttle is meant to reduce parking demand near the beach "as the W Hotel parking lot closes."

It works differently from the beach trolleys you may remember:

  • When it runs: Friday through Sunday and holidays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • How you call it: On demand through the free Ride Circuit app. It has no fixed route or timetable.
  • Where it goes: Direct trips between a home or business inside the new service area and Fisher Family Pier and the beach.
  • What it carries: Beach chairs, bags and coolers. All three vehicles are wheelchair accessible, and they seat five, six and 15 passengers.

Every trip on the new service starts or ends at the beach, so it won't carry riders between two stops inside the expanded area. The city's original Circuit service keeps running in its own zone, which covers the Fishing Village, the pier, Harbor Village, the beach hotels and nearby restaurants.

The two zones appear in different colors on the city's map, green for the new shuttle and blue for the existing Circuit. The boundaries are drawn street by street, so before you rely on a ride home from the pier, look up your block on the Pompano Circuit service map. This matters most if you live on North Pompano Beach Boulevard, Riverside Drive or the streets up toward Hillsboro Inlet.

The two lots that now feed the beach are downtown

If you're coming from outside the shuttle area, or hosting visitors who are, the city has set up two free weekend Park & Ride lots:

  1. City Hall, 100 W. Atlantic Boulevard
  2. The Old Town parking lot, at NE 2nd Street and NE 2nd Avenue

You park for free and request a Circuit ride straight to the pier and beach.

Both lots are in the downtown core, as Pompano Beach Insider pointed out in its write-up of the launch. The outlet noted that this setup lets riders pair a beach afternoon with Old Town "without moving your car twice." If you have weekend guests, a car left at City Hall can cover lunch in Old Town, an afternoon on the sand and dinner back west without anyone circling A1A.

The garage is still there, and the rates explain why the city wants you riding

The main structured parking left near the pier is the Pier Parking Garage at 3460 NE 3rd St., with public parking on levels 2 through 4. The city's CRA project page says the garage added 609 spaces on NE 2nd Street between A1A and Pompano Beach Boulevard.

The garage is in the city's Zone 2. Here's what an evening there costs on a normal schedule compared with drone show night:

Day type Pier Parking Garage Other lots and street meters
Weekday $1.80 per hour Zone rates apply
Weekend $2.50 per hour Zone rates apply
Holidays and events $3.25 per hour Zone rates apply
Drone Show, Nov. 7 $20 flat, cash only $4 per hour holiday rate

On a normal Saturday, $20 buys eight hours in the garage. On November 7 it buys one evening, and only if you have cash. Both the shuttle and the event buses are free.

November 7 is the first real test

The Drone Show Extravaganza falls on a Saturday this year, in honor of Veterans Day weekend. Firefly Drone Shows will fly 500 drones over the ocean just south of the pier. Fishing Village businesses are helping pay for the show. Pompano Beach Insider reports that this is the show's fifth year.

The drones fly for 15 minutes, but the event runs about three and a half hours:

  • 5:30 p.m. DJ set
  • 6:00 p.m. Live band, Junior's Entertainment Group
  • 7:00 p.m. Drone show, until 7:15
  • 7:15 p.m. More music from Junior's Entertainment Group
  • 8:15 p.m. DJ closes the night, ending at 9:00

The event is free. The pier itself is closed for the night, and the north side of the pier is reserved for drone staging. The city asks spectators to gather on the beach south of the pier. If you live north of the pier and usually walk down the sand, plan on passing the pier to get to the viewing area.

The closures that reach into the neighborhood

The closures start before the event and run past it:

  • Fisher Family Pier: Closed from 10 p.m. Friday, November 6, until 7 a.m. Sunday, November 8. If you fish from the pier on Saturday mornings, that one is gone.
  • Riverside Drive, NE 14th Street to 2nd Street: Closed to vehicle traffic from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. You'll need proof of residency to pass during those hours, so keep a document with your address in the car if you live along that stretch.
  • North Pompano Beach Boulevard and eastbound Atlantic Boulevard at Harbor Drive: Could close as early as 6 p.m.

The Riverside Drive window opens five hours before the drones fly. Saturday errands, deliveries and arriving guests all fall inside it. Guests heading to a north-of-pier address after 2 p.m. will have an easier time if they arrive before the closure or come by rideshare. On event night, rideshare drop-off and pickup is at the Beach Branch Library, 3250 NE 2nd Street.

The event-night ride system

Show night has its own transit setup on top of the weekend shuttle. Free event shuttles start at 1 p.m. from Pompano Community Park, picking up at the Pompano Beach Aquatic Center, 820 NE 18th Avenue, and dropping off at the Beach Branch Library. The last shuttle to the beach leaves the park at 6 p.m. The last return trip leaves the beach at 10 p.m. The city also lists the on-demand Circuit for the night. You can request a pickup in the Ride Circuit app or wave down the nearest driver.

The 6 p.m. cutoff is the one to watch. North Pompano Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard at Harbor Drive can close starting at 6, and that's also when the last bus leaves Community Park. Anyone driving in from the mainland for the 7 p.m. drones should leave early or use one of the shuttles.

After the show, the same rides keep paying off

The shuttle is built for weekends, and the beach corridor's November calendar stays busy after November 7.

On Friday, November 13, Music Under the Stars brings Laura Goodstone to the Great Lawn at Atlantic Boulevard and Pompano Beach Boulevard. The concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m., and Pompano Beach Insider's fall lineup coverage notes the series is free. It's a Friday night inside shuttle hours, and it ends an hour before the 10 p.m. cutoff.

Farther down the boulevard, RimLay Seafood is planned for 3428 E. Atlantic Blvd., in the former La Terrazza Cubana space. Pompano Beach Insider describes it as a Thai-Cajun seafood-boil restaurant of about 2,300 square feet, with roughly 40 seats inside and 40 outside. It's aiming to open shortly after Thanksgiving or in December. The menu and hours haven't been announced, and the opening date isn't confirmed.

Taken together, the free shuttle, the downtown park-and-ride lots and the event-night buses mean the pier now depends more on rides than on nearby parking. For a household in Pompano Point, the most useful prep for November is to install the Ride Circuit app, find your street on the service map and put the Riverside Drive closure hours on your calendar.
